What is the Karnataka Government Gruha Jyothi Scheme?

The number of units of free electricity available depends on the average electricity consumed in the previous year. Households with an average electricity consumption higher than 200 units will not be eligible for this scheme.

• The applicant must be a Karnataka state resident.
• The connection must be registered as a residential connection.
• Only one electric meter connection is eligible for the scheme benefits.

Average Electricity Calculation for Gruha Jyothi Scheme Karnataka

The Karnataka state government uses the following formula to calculate a customer’s average electricity consumption.

Number of complimentary units you are eligible for = Average electricity consumption for the previous financial year + 10%. For example, let’s say your household consumed 150 units of electricity per month in the previous year. Hence, you are eligible for 150 + 10% = 165 units of free electricity per month.

If your monthly electricity consumption is equal to or less than 165 units, you will receive a zero bill for the month. However, if you consume more than 165 units of electricity, you will need to pay for the additional units.

For example, if you consume 180 units in the month, you will receive 165 units free and be billed for 15 units. However, if you consume more than 200 units of electricity in the month, let’s say, 240 units, you will be billed for the total 240 units.

What if you have no record of your past year’s electricity consumption?

If you have recently moved to a new house or moved to a new construction, you will not have any record of your previous year’s electricity consumption. In this case, you will be eligible for 53 + 10% units of free electricity. This amounts to 59 units of free electricity. So, if you consumed 180 units of electricity in the month, you will be billed for 121 units.

Households in Karnataka can apply for this scheme online through the Seva Sindhu platform or offline by visiting a Bangalore One, Karnataka One, Grama Panchayat, Grama One, or Nadakacheri Center. Submitting an online application is the simplest way to apply for this scheme.

Step 3: Click on the link to register for the Griha Jyoti Yojana

Step 4: Choose your preferred language and enter the details as required in the form. After entering your mobile number, you will receive an OTP via SMS.

Enter the OTP to verify your number. Accept the declaration and captcha code. Click on the submit button to finish the registration process.

Step 5: Review the application and click on the Submit button. You will receive an acknowledgment via SMS/ email.

Step 2: Click on the button to ‘Know the status of your application’

Step 3. Select your Escom name from the drop-down menu and enter your Account ID. Click on the Check Status button.

Steps for Gruha Jyothi Delink

Karnataka residents can register only one electricity connection at a time to benefit from the Karnataka Government Gruha Jyothi Scheme. Hence, if you move from one house to another, you will need to delink your account from the Gruha Jyothi Seva Sindhu and submit a new application for your new address. Here’s how to do this:

Step 1: Visit https://sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in/

Step 2: Click on the yellow bulb icon.

Step 3: Click on the second option; ‘Click here to de-link from the Griha Jyoti Yojana’

Step 4: Enter your Aadhaar number and click on the Get Details button.

Step 5: Click the button to Generate OTP and enter the OTP as received via SMS. Click on the Submit button.

Step 6: Select a reason to de-link your account, give your consent for the declaration, and click the Submit button.
