Assam Ministers List -A Short Bio Of Cabinet Ministers

Himanta Biswa Sarma

Senior BJP leader and the incumbent Chief Minister of Assam, sworn in for a second consecutive term in 2026. He represents the Jalukbari Assembly constituency and currently handles key departments including Home, Personnel, and Public Works Department (PWD), along with other unallocated portfolios.

Rameswar Teli

BJP leader and former Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Labour & Employment. A prominent leader from Assam’s tea tribe community, he earlier represented Dibrugarh in the Lok Sabha and previously served as MLA from Duliajan. He was inducted into the new Assam cabinet in 2026.

Atul Bora

President of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and a key NDA ally in Assam politics. He represents the Bokakhat Assembly constituency and continues as a cabinet minister overseeing Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Border Area Development, and Implementation of the Assam Accord.

Charan Boro

Senior Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader and MLA from the Majbat constituency in Udalguri district. He joined the Assam cabinet as a representative of the Bodo community and has previously handled Transport and Welfare of Bodoland departments.

Ajanta Neog

Veteran Assam politician and one of the state’s most prominent women leaders. She represents the Golaghat constituency and has served as Assam’s Finance Minister along with Women & Child Development portfolios. Formerly a Congress leader, she joined the BJP in 2020 and remains an influential figure in the Assam cabinet.

Key Portfolios to Watch in the New Ministry

Based on governance priorities announced during the campaign and the 2021–2026 precedent, the following portfolios are expected to be pivotal in the new ministry:

Home Department — Traditionally held by the Chief Minister himself, this will continue to be Sarma’s most closely guarded portfolio given the ongoing issues of border security and illegal immigration.

Finance — Ajanta Neog, if retained, would be the frontrunner. Her stewardship of the Finance ministry in the previous term was largely considered stable.

Education — Ranoj Pegu made significant strides in the previous term; his continuation would signal policy continuity.

Health & Family Welfare — A key battleground after several controversies in the outgoing term; this berth will attract significant attention.

Revenue & Disaster Management — Critical given Assam’s annual flood crisis, this ministry will be closely watched.

Agriculture & Horticulture — Expected to remain with AGP, likely with Atul Bora continuing, as it was a core alliance commitment.
