Aadhar

Aadhar card is an initiative by the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI.

It is a statutory authority established by the Government of India on 12 July 2016 under the Aadhaar Act 2016.

UIDAI comes under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The aim of issuing Unique Identification numbers (UID) is to

  1. Eliminate fake identities
  2. Set up an easy and cost-effective way to verify identity of a person

  1. The first aadhar card was issued to a resident in Nandurbar, Maharashtra on September 29, 2010.
  2. UIDAI is headquartered in New Delhi with eight regional offices spread across the country.
