Most dramatic among these defeats was that of Co-operatives Minister K.R. Periyakaruppan, who lost the Tiruppattur seat by just one vote. At one point he was leading by 30 votes, but his TVK rival Seenivasa Sethupathy overtook him in the final round of counting — one of the closest finishes in Tamil Nadu electoral history. On the other end, S.M. Nassar lost by a staggering 74,829 votes in Avadi, the largest margin of defeat among all the fallen ministers.
